KEK j.s.c informs that it has started the replacement of electrostatic precipitators (ESP) of A5 unit. Process is being performed in line with the foreseen plan and it is expected to have this completed in 4 and half months, planning the eventual reduction of emissions up to European Union standards. So the gas emission from this unit will be same with EU standards.
Senior management of KEK has inspected the site and it considered that works are developing as per the contractual terms and conditions. The works are being performed by Hamon Envoirmental, a world-known company from Germany in consortium with Intering Company, in a contract following the successful tendering procedure on replacement of new electrostatic precipitators.
“From this environment project all citizens round the power plant as Obiliq, Fushë Kosovë and Prishtina will benefit. The environment will be cleaner that is key indicator that current KEK management is orientated to be environment friendlier company”, said Mr. Arben Gjukaj – the Managing Director of KEK.
The representatives of the company that is implementing the project are dedicated to perform works point by point according the contract.
The installation of new electrostatic precipitators is part of the largest environment project of KEK. Based on this project the electrostatic precipitators of active units of PP “Kosova A”, namely A3, A4, and A5 will be replaced. After the replacement of electrostatic precipitator in unit A5, it will immediately start the replacement of ESPs in unit A3 that is planned to be completed by end of third quarter of this year, leaving way for replacement of electro static precipitators in unit A4 will start. The replacement cannot by carried out simultaneously as units must be out of operation until the complete replacement of ESPs. The project will be completed in the first quarter in 2013 year and has a cost over 25 million euro, as own funds of KEK.
The replacement of electro static precipitators is one of four factors that because of previous degradation and inherited technology were identified by the environment experts as major environment pollutants. KEK is working on the elimination of four pollutants and in 2013, the area where KEK is operating will be cleaner and quality of life of citizens will be improved.
Except the electrostatic precipitators, KEK is nearing the completion of project for the cover of the ash dump near PP “Kosova A”, construction of hydraulic wet ash transport system and treatment of over than 20 000 tons of hazardous materials. All those projects will be completed within this year.
